The location in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Human Resources Superintendent, Ontario Woodlands. This job is full-time permanent.

 

 

Human Resources Superintendent, Ontario Woodlands 

 

Domtar is seeking candidates for the position of Human Resources Superintendent for our Ontario Woodlands.

 

The Human Resources Superintendent reports to the General Manager, Ontario Woodlands will be directly responsible to provide site level administrative support for the local Ontario Woodlands management group.

 

You will be a customer service superstar as you work with our Ontario Contractor Teams. You will also have the ability to adjust to the rapidly changing priorities working with a busy, professional team.

Your responsibilities:

  • Comply with our health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Provide Human Resources support to all managers in the areas of Recruitment, Orientation, Training, Benefits, and Health & Safety
  • Coordinate the Demonstrative Effectiveness Assessment review and development planning process for all staff including management assessments, performance improvement plans, tracking progress on goal attainment and supervisor training & professional development
  • Administer progressive disciplinary actions in accordance with established procedures
  • Deliver diversity, workplace harassment, employee relations, performance management and HR policy training
  • Area Lead related to Ontario Woodlands collective agreements renewal negotiations
  • Area Lead on labour relation / collective agreement grievances and arbitrations
  • Train, mentor and support contractors on collective agreement administration
  • Support the general manager in the maintenance of succession plans for Ontario Woodlands
  • Coordinate employee engagement and retention initiatives
  • Manage staff, employee and contractor EFAP and health benefit plans
  • Participate as a member of the Joint Health & Safety committee and provide relief for Health & Safety Superintendent
  • Manage relationships and serve as point of contact with external agencies (i.e. College, University, Training Services, Ontario MOL, Training and Skill Development)
  • Collaborate with Indigenous HR leaders to develop capacity building and sector specific inclusivity plans
  • Develop proposals and seek funding partnerships for staff hires and contractor training programs
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all human resource, health and safety metrics
  • Participate in/preparation of special assignments and analysis as initiated by the General Manager and other Operating Managers
  • As requested, conduct ad hoc research, compile information, and make recommendations
  • Support and ensure adherence to corporate and local policies and procedures
  • 20% Regional travel required

 

Ideal profile:

  • Certificate in HR, Business Administration or equivalent.
  • 5-10 years of work experience within an industrialized manufacturing setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required, including an ability to work collaboratively within a fast paced and structured environment
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to balance priorities that meet short and long-term objectives; uses organized and efficient work methods
  • Proficient analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite particularly in Excel and PowerPoint; SAP would be an asset.
  • Self-motivated with an optimistic outlook and the ability to motivate and energize others
