DAY SUPERVISOR
Reports To: Fibreline Manager
Grade: 10
Location: Skookumchuck Pulp Inc.
Job Family: Supervisor
Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000 CAD per year
Schedule: 3 days on / 3 days off (shift rotation)
Main Function
The Day Supervisor is responsible for the leadership and supervision of day-to-day operations within the warehouse, pulp shipping and quality, chip yard, and yard services. This role has direct accountability for employee safety, performance, and operational effectiveness within these areas.
Areas of Responsibility
Safety, Environmental & Quality
- Promotes and improves environmental performance while ensuring compliance with corporate policies and government safety and environmental regulations.
- Provides leadership in the development and implementation of departmental objectives to meet quality standards and maintain ISO certification.
- Immediately records and reports all safety concerns, incidents, and near misses to the Department Manager.
- Ensures employees consistently follow and develop safe work practices and comply with company safety procedures and standards.
Operations & Key Job Accountabilities
- Ensures effective area operations and achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs); reports deficiencies to the Area Superintendent as required.
- Coordinates operations and maintenance activities to safely improve equipment reliability and availability.
- Supports the efficient production of high-quality pulp through the development and implementation of operational programs and procedures.
- Assists Fiberline Shift Supervisors with troubleshooting operational issues and managing variable and fixed costs.
- Works closely with Logistics to plan and coordinate all shipping and loading activities, including rail and truck transportation.
- Collaborates with chip handling employees to ensure job tasks are completed efficiently and daily operational instructions are clearly communicated.
- Coordinates all railway transportation activities, including rail switches for the chemical plant area and warehouse.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Leads assigned areas to consistently produce high-quality products that meet or exceed internal and external customer requirements.
- Fosters an inclusive work environment where all employees are treated with respect and dignity.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to improve operations, increase efficiencies, reduce costs, and meet safety and environmental objectives.
Financial Accountability
- Plans and collaborates with Maintenance to maximize production uptime and minimize costs related to unscheduled breakdowns.
- Monitors operating targets for maximum efficiency and reports all variances.
- Operates within budgeted guidelines through the preparation, control, and administration of departmental budgets.
Staff Management
- Builds strong working relationships and fosters a positive team environment where employees are empowered, supported, and recognized for their contributions.
- Mentors, coaches, and guides team members to support development and performance.
- Clearly defines responsibilities and performance expectations for area employees.
Qualifications
Education, Technical Skills & Experience
- High school diploma with knowledge of area processes, or prior experience in shipping, warehouse operations, or supervision.
- Working knowledge of warehouse, chip handling, and railway processes, with the ability to organize, plan, lead, and motivate teams.
- Demonstrated ability to engage, lead, and influence employees.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a small team environment and interact with senior leadership.
- Proven technical, project management, and strategic problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer proficiency with the ability to learn new systems and programs as required.
