Job Summary

As the Maintenance Supervisor – Pulp Mill Operations, you will lead the mechanical maintenance function supporting all pulp mill process areas. This role is responsible for daily leadership of maintenance crews, driving safety and reliability improvements, reducing unplanned downtime, and supporting production and quality objectives. You will work closely with Production, Engineering, Reliability, and Planning to ensure safe, cost-effective, and reliable pulp mill operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily leadership and supervision of pulp mill mechanical maintenance crews, including area and shift personnel and contractors.
  • Champion safety leadership, ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements; hold employees and contractors accountable for safe work practices.
  • Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for pulp mill systems, including fiber line equipment, digesters, washers, recaust, lime kiln, stock prep, and supporting utilities.
  • Drive process reliability improvements to reduce downtime, improve asset performance, and support production goals.
  • Partner with Production, Engineering, Reliability, and Maintenance Planning to coordinate work execution and minimize operational impacts.
  • Support and implement reliability-centered maintenance practices, including PdM technologies, RCFA/RCA, equipment history optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members; identify skill gaps and lead training efforts.
  • Participate in planning and executing mill outages, shutdowns, and turnaround activities.
  • Oversee budget and cost-effective maintenance execution, including labor, materials, and services.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of CMMS/SAP workflows, preventive maintenance programs, inventory management, and maintenance best practices.
  • Lead and support change initiatives aligned with High Performance Work Systems and mill objectives.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred; Associate’s degree in Mechanical Technology or Industrial Maintenance with equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Including 3–5+ years of supervisory or leadership experience, preferably in pulp & paper, heavy manufacturing, or unionized environments.
  • Leadership & Change Management: Demonstrated ability to lead teams through operational change, process improvements, and high-demand production periods. Strong skills in coaching, mentoring, and team development.
  • Operational & Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of mechanical systems, preventive and predictive maintenance practices, and safety regulations. Familiarity with reliability engineering tools such as RCA, Lean, DMAIC, and FMEA is a plus.
  • Systems & Tools: Proficiency with MS Office; experience using CMMS (SAP preferred).
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities; ability to balance operational demands with team development and strategic priorities.

Preferred

  • 5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with condition monitoring or PdM tools (vibration analysis, thermography) is desirable.
