Maintenance Supervisor – Paper Mill Operations

As our Maintenance Supervisor, you will oversee the mechanical maintenance of all mill equipment, structures, and support systems—ensuring maximum uptime, safe work practices, and continuous improvement across the site. This role is a key partner to Production, Engineering, and Reliability teams and plays a major part in the success of the entire mill.
What You’ll Do

Lead and supervise daily work of mechanical maintenance and reliability crews, including craftspeople, technicians, and contractors.

Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for all mill systems, equipment, and infrastructure.

Support and drive reliability-centered maintenance initiatives (PdM, vibration analysis, RCFA, equipment history optimization, and more).

Coordinate maintenance activities with Operations to minimize downtime and support production schedules.

Oversee contractor performance and manage maintenance-related service agreements.

Champion safety every day—ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.

Coach, mentor, and develop team members; identify skill gaps and lead training efforts.

Participate in planning and executing mill shutdowns, outages, and turnaround activities.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across CMMS/SAP workflows, preventive maintenance programs, inventory management, and cost control.

Support front-office and special projects, including capital upgrades, environmental mechanical systems, and site-wide reliability initiatives.
What You Bring
Required
-
Associate degree in Mechanical Technology/Industrial Maintenance or equivalent experience.
-
5+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Strong understanding of mechanical systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations.
-
Proficiency with MS Office; experience using a CMMS (SAP preferred).

Demonstrated leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
Preferred
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.

Experience in pulp & paper, heavy manufacturing, or unionized environments.

Training or certification in condition monitoring (vibration analysis, thermography, PdM).

Background in reliability engineering tools: RCA, Lean, DMAIC, FMEA.

Proven ability to lead teams through change, improvement, and high-demand operational periods.
Physical & Work Environment
This role works in an industrial mill setting and requires:

Climbing ladders/stairs, working at heights, and lifting up to ~25 lbs. (heavier with assistance).

Exposure to heat, noise, dust, steam, chemicals, and other environmental factors.

Use of PPE (safety shoes, eye/hearing protection, hard hat, gloves, respirator as required).

On-call coverage, occasional weekends or shift work, and participation in mill outages/shutdowns.

Office work for planning, reporting, and CMMS/SAP tasks.
