Our Howe Sound Mill, located on the Sunshine Coast is currently seeking talent to fill the position of Power & Recovery Superintendent.
The Power Area Superintendent is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the Power area within the Power & Recovery Department. This includes working closely with Maintenance and Operations teams to ensure the achievement of objectives by driving ongoing improvements in safety, operating procedures, cost reduction, and productivity through effective delegation. Additionally, the Superintendent is accountable for environmental compliance, production, quality, maintenance, capital projects, major maintenance, within the Power area.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES & KEY ACTIVITIES:
- Direct the efficient operation of the Power Area including Power Boiler and its auxiliary systems, Steam Turbine Generators, Steam Distribution System, Mill Water & Potable Water Systems, Demin Plant, Compressed Air System and Effluent Treatment Plant.
- Support supervisors with a plan for the day, assisting crew operators and troubleshooting equipment/process failures if requested.
- Develop and manage a 90-day plan to drive performance in his area through process development, operator training, parameter setting, and any other long-term initiatives associated with safety, quality, or performance.
- Conduct RCFAs and determine required actions to add to 90-Day plan and/or suggest systemic changes required.
- Maintain liaison and communication with Kraft departments to ensure overall operation is optimized.
- Coordinate to identify priority centerlines, set limits, manage out of limits, and train operators on use of SOPs to manage parameters.
- Escalate outages/slow backs as required
- Identify potential CAPEX projects and support their justification through cost-benefit analysis, and operational need
- Assist area teams in analyzing operational difficulties and initiate necessary action to overcome them.
- Submit and administer the Power Area operating budgets, be aware of departmental costs and take steps to control them through direction to managers.
- Provide operating standards, procedures and checklists, instruction manuals and other operational guidance to ensure efficient operation.
- Review and all safety incidents and near misses and establish preventative measures. Provide feedback to supervisor on how incidents were handled.
- Ensure that an acceptable standard of housekeeping is maintained by supervisors and crew.
- Ensure a thorough understanding of all HSPP safety programs and policies and Work Safe BC regulations.
- Maintains a positive and professional management style that supports teamwork and the employees in achieving company goals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years of operational experience in co-generation power plant and utility systems
- A 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate is preferred
- Supervisory experience in a unionized environment is an asset
- Strong planning and organizational skills, and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent interpersonal and team building skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, and safety-focused environment
- Experience in the forestry or manufacturing industry is considered an asset
COMPENSATION
- Salary $118,000 - $145,000 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience, and internal parity).
