The Howe Sound Mill located on the Sunshine Coast, BC is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op Student for a 4 month work term starting in May 2026.
Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, you will assist in developing the HSPP Fixed Asset Integrity Program, which encompasses pressure vessels, atmospheric tanks, pressure safety valves, and piping. You will continue the work of previous co‑op students, with a primary focus on collecting and reviewing non‑destructive testing inspection reports. This role will provide experience with ASME and API standards, maintenance engineering, and Kraft pulp mill processes. You will also collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to support mill objectives related to safety, environmental performance, production, cost, and quality.
Specific Accountabilities and Key Activities:
- Continue developing the Fixed Asset Integrity program started by previous co-ops.
- Collect and properly fille fixed asset inspection and repair reports.
- Review inspection and repair reports, recording key information in the fixed asset registers.
- Establish inspection frequencies for fixed assets based on inspection findings or risk‑based methodologies aligned with industry standards and best practices.
- Create maintenance work orders in SAP for repairs identified in inspection reports.
- Create maintenance plans in SAP for recurring fixed asset inspections.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program at a recognized university.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel.

- Public transportation on the Sunshine Coast is extremely limited, and the successful applicant will require a personal vehicle for daily living and commuting to work.
- HSPP will not be providing housing; the successful candidate will be responsible for securing their own accommodation.
