The location in Port Mellon, British Columbia, is seeking an experienced and collaborative Electrical & Instrument Superintendent to join our Maintenance team. 

 

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Electrical/Instrumentation Superintendent is responsible for the leadership, organization, planning, development, budget management and execution of the mill’s Electrical/Instrumentation maintenance programs.

 

This role provides both day-to-day leadership and a longer-term focus on reliability, continuous improvement and asset preservation. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and other stakeholders to ensure safe, effective and efficient maintenance of the mill’s electrical and instrumentation systems and equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities


  • Provide leadership to the Electrical/Instrument Maintenance Department, promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements and applicable safety standards.
  • Clearly communicate safety expectations, maintenance priorities, budget and cost-control requirements, planning and scheduling priorities, policies, procedures and contract administration practices.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager in the development and administration of the annual maintenance budget, while maintaining effective cost control within assigned areas.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering to prioritize equipment failures, identify and resolve problems, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Oversee daily maintenance planning, preventive maintenance activities, shutdown scheduling and long-term asset preservation initiatives.
  • Promote effective housekeeping practices and support 5S initiatives within the department.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the E/I group, including optimizing spare-parts inventory and determining when contractor resources are required to address maintenance backlogs.
  • Assess technical and interpersonal skill gaps within the E/I team and work with employees and leaders to identify training, development and succession opportunities.
  • Support the adoption of new technologies, systems and practices that improve maintenance effectiveness and equipment reliability.
  • Maintain strong relationships with technical, professional and industry contacts to stay current with technological and organizational developments.
  • Lead or participate in special projects and other initiatives as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Recognize when issues require escalation, follow established processes and ensure appropriate action is taken.

 

What You’ll Bring

 

The ideal candidate is a strong people leader with a combination of technical expertise, maintenance experience, planning ability and a commitment to continuous improvement. You are comfortable working in a complex industrial environment and can balance immediate operational needs with long-term reliability objective with demonstrated abilities in the following key areas: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an Electrical or Instrumentation Journeyman Certification.
  • Experience leading electrical and/or instrumentation maintenance in an industrial environment.
    with demonstrated ability in team building and the ability to develop employees and foster accountability.
  • A commitment to workplace safety, regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance planning, preventive maintenance, shutdowns and asset management.
  • Strong organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with budgeting, cost control and contractor management.
  • Familiarity with steam turbine generators, power distribution networks, and protective relays.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and other departments.
  • A continuous improvement mindset and an interest in emerging technologies and maintenance practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of high- and low-voltage electrical systems, industrial control systems, DCS, and PLC programming.
  • Must possess a high degree of understanding of all trades in the department and a good understanding of mill operating and maintenance procedures

The annual salary range for this position is $125,000–$155,000, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities.
