The location in Port Mellon, BC is seeking talent to fill the position of Chipper Booth Operator. This job is full-time permanent.
Education and Experience:
- While formal education isn’t always required, having a high school diploma or equivalent is beneficial.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a chip plant and operating equipment for the plant
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate heavy equipment such as Tanguay, front end loader, Operate Forklifts, Telehandlers and Scissor Lifts.
- Knowledge of different log species.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to adhere to all safety policies and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Valid driver’s license is highly preferred.
- Valid first aid level 3 certificate or willingness to be put through the course will be given priority in hiring process.
Additional Requirements:
- Conduct pre-job equipment inspection
- Drives production by controlling the flow of wood to the chipper
- Assists in chipper knife changes, debarker changes, conveyor belt adjustments and repairs
- Transfer logs from barker to log conveyor.
- Communicate with the Tanguay operator.
- Monitor loading of scows
- Monitor Hogger, conveyors and bins
- Monitor and reset metal detectors after removal of metal
- Operate transfer decks, log stop and loaders, infeed belt to chipper and push arm on infeed belt
- Monitor conveyors to yard and scow area
- Operate Debarker
- Assist with unplugging jams.
- General housekeeping in the plant such as cleanup of woodchip spillage from conveyors.
- All other duties requested by management.
Candidates must have a positive work ethic and the ability to work and communicate successfully in a team environment, with minimal supervision. Adaptability to various work assignments and changing conditions is essential. We are seeking responsible individuals, with a commitment to workplace safety and quality.
The hourly rate for this position is $43.57
