The location in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Shift Supervisor. This job is full-time permanent
Safety, Environmental & Quality
- Ensures daily operational processes comply with safety and environmental regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Conducts shift readiness checks, safety meetings, inspections, and hazard identification activities.
- Ensures employees receive the training required to perform their jobs safely and effectively.
- Ensures that only authorized and adequately trained employees operate tools and equipment or handle hazardous chemicals.
- Supports leadership in implementing departmental objectives to achieve quality standards and maintain ISO certification.
- Investigates, reports, and responds to all injuries, incidents, and potential injuries involving assigned crews to mitigate future risks.
- Participates in emergency response activities and ensures appropriate action is taken during plant emergencies.
- Maintains a high standard of housekeeping within the assigned area.
Operations & Key Accountabilities
- Executes daily and shift production plans to achieve production, quality, reliability, and uptime targets.
- Works with other Operations Supervisors to coordinate maintenance shutdown schedules.
- Performs lockout/tagout isolations in accordance with the Company's Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Monitors equipment performance, operating conditions, production rates, and process parameters; identifies and troubleshoots operational issues and process abnormalities.
- Monitors maintenance-related downtime responds to equipment failures and establishes operational priorities to minimize production impacts.
- Supports the plant scheduler in ensuring adequate staffing coverage across all shifts to maximize production capacity.Assigns employees and resources based on production requirements.
- Maintains accurate shift logs, production records, and reports, and communicates key operational information to incoming shifts and management.
- Escalates significant production, equipment, safety, or environmental issues as required.
Employee Relations & Customer Satisfaction
- Directly supervises hourly and production employees.
- Supports employee scheduling, including the allocation of work hours and management of crew coverage
- Manages attendance, absenteeism, vacation schedules, and overtime coverage.
- Identifies employee training and competency gaps and escalates them to the Operations Manager
- Promotes teamwork, accountability, and respectful workplace behavior
- Resolves routine employee concerns and workplace conflicts
- Partners with HR on more complex employee relations matters.
Financial Accountability
- Minimize waste, production losses, downtime and rework.
- Protect company assets and minimize avoidable equipment damage.
Leadership
- Establish expectations and hold employees accountable.
- Lead by example in safety, environmental compliance and operational discipline.
- Coach, mentor and develop employees.
- Build employee engagement and teamwork.
- Conduct shift/start-of-shift meetings.
Technical Experience & Education
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Post-secondary education in a related field is considered an asset.
- Working in a unionized environement with pulp and paper experience is an added advantage.
Skills & Abilities

- Proficient in the use of computers and relevant business and operational technologies.
- Demonstrates strong strategic thinking and project management skills.
- Proven ability to lead and direct teams within a unionized environment.

Salary range: $107,000 to $119,000 per annum (actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience, and internal parity).
