The location in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Environmental Lab Technician.
This job is full-time tremporay to cover a twelve (12) month leave from May 20, 2026 to May 20, 2027.
Reporting to the Environmental Manager, the incumbent will provide a wide variety of laboratory-based tasks to support the operation and facility in general. These include collecting samples, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing in support of quality control, process control and troubleshooting. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining records, preparing, and communicating reports. S/he will also be required to adhere to lab and test procedures as well as health and safety procedures.
The successful candidate will have a Diploma or degree in Environmental Technology, Chemical Technology, Pulp & Paper Technology, Chemistry, or related field. Knowledge of process and effluent sampling, laboratory methods, and instrument calibration.
Applicants must demonstrate a high degree of numerical aptitude and a proficiency in various personal computer applications, including hands-on experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
The successful candidate will be well organized, possessing excellent interpersonal and communication skills and will have demonstrated the ability to work successfully in a team environment with minimum supervision. Valid Class 5 driver’s license. Ability to lift up 40lbs. Ability to perform field sampling in varied weather conditions. Ability to perform fielding sampling on a boat in the Alberni Inlet.
Employees in this classification work a 7 ½ hour day shift. Overtime opportunities available during operational needs and special sampling events. S/he must demonstrate a positive work ethic and have the ability to work and communicate successfully in a team environment, with minimal supervision. We are looking for a responsible individual, with a commitment to workplace safety. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Salary $77,483.27 per annum base on full-time hours as per the collective agreement.
