The location in Plymouth, (North Carolina, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Woodyard and Wood Procurement Manager. This job is full-time permanent.

 

Woodyard and Wood Procurement Manager

Job Description:

Reporting directly to the General Manager, this position’s primary function is to: 

  • Set strategic direction, as part of the Plant Leadership Team, in the areas of health and safety, environmental compliance, sustainability, quality, productivity, and cost.
  • Compile and prepare corporate reports while ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations
  • Responsible for motivation and success of a unionized Woodyard with self-directed employees and 5 direct leadership reports to meet productivity and process goals.
  • Manage the mill’s woodyard operations with the Woodyard Assistant Superintendent to ensure safe, efficient, and economical movement, storage, delivery, and processing of wood to the mill’s pulp operations to fulfill prescribed fiber requirements consistent with the mill operating objectives.
  • Manage the planning and procurement of all wood fiber to sustain the Plymouth Mill’s operations in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Develop short- and long-term sourcing strategies to ensure fiber procurement is on a sustainable basis at the lowest possible cost while maximizing FSC/SFI/PEFC fiber.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental policies and regulations.
  • Develop and manage fiber procurement and woodyard operating budgets, including capital.
  • Ensure that all objectives related to efficiency, productivity, quality, cost, environment and health and safety are reached or surpassed.
  • Manage wood inventory, ensuring accurate tracking of volumes to maintain optimal wood inventory levels.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers (loggers, landowners, sawmills)
  • Develop good working relationships with all governmental and public agencies and public affiliates.

 

Qualification / Working Conditions:

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in forestry or related field and no less than ten years of job-related experience or equivalent. 
  • Possess an in-depth knowledge of business principles.
  • Ability to manage off-hours and weekend emergency calls.
  • Driving is a key requirement to fulfill key accountabilities, and incumbent must be available for light travel.

 

Skills:

 

The incumbent must possess and have demonstrated:

  • An expert level of knowledge needed in wood and fiber procurement processes and woodyard operations
  • Knowledge and understanding of forest management as it relates to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Forest Stewardship Council standards.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills and have excellent skills in oral and written communication.  Must be effective communicator in small and large group settings.
  • The ability to advise, recommend, direct and delegate, exchange information, interview, negotiate, sell, persuade, or influence.
  • An ability to be a team player; as well as prepare and make presentations for small and large groups.
  • Working knowledge of capital budgets and long-range planning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety and environmental laws and regulations as they apply to procurement and logging functions.
