The location in Plymouth, (North Carolina, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Environmental Engineer - Water Lead. This job is full-time permanent.
Overview: Domtar is seeking an Environmental Engineer at our Pulp Mill in Plymouth, North Carolina. The Environmental Engineer reports to the Environmental Manager. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, compiling and submitting monitoring reports, reporting environmental incidents and excursions and serving as a resource to all departments within the Plymouth Mill Operations.
Essential Functions:
- Support mill safety programs and initiatives.
- Support mill-wide strategic plans and goals
- Help develop environmental budget and manage cost to the budget
- Participate in Environmental Call-duty.
- Support fish dioxin sampling, reporting and record keeping per NDPES permit.
- Manage wastewater treatment system compliance with NPDES permit: sampling, monitoring, reporting (online DRM, cluster rule, bioassays, dioxin, etc) and record keeping requirements - Grade IV certification required.
- Maintain necessary analytical supplies and equipment.
- Help facilitate WWTS Maintenance.
- Manage Drinking water compliance program: maintain certifications, required plans, sampling, reporting, record keeping, acquire permits for system modifications or construction, manage events (notifications), disinfection – C-well certifications required.
- Manage Stormwater compliance program: maintain permit, inspections, sampling, analyses, record keeping, SWPPP, and training.
- Manage effective utilization of PARCView database, ensure comprehensive record keeping of analyses and monitoring through this system.
- Manage groundwater compliance for landfills.
- Manage wastewater treatment system sludge operations: dredging, decanting pond, knots. levels.
- Manage ISO 9001 lab quality program.
- Perform lab supervisor duties
- Conduct necessary SAP tasks: goods receipts, time approval, requisition submittal, service entries
- Serve as annual shutdown planning representative for the Environmental Dept. as needed
- Maintain water related training modules, including related SOPs.
- Conduct Environmental Show Me Audits, document and follow up with corrective actions.
- Conduct environmental training in the mill
- Support chemical management: chemical reviews (water), handling, labeling, storing.
- Perform landfill inspections
- Participate in corporate environmental audits.
- Perform Landfill inspections
- Continuous improvement mindset
- Prepare justifications for projects
- Willingness to cross train and become proficient in air, solid waste, and hazardous waste duties.
- Willingness to obtain Manager of Landfill Operations certification in a timely manner
- Willingness to obtain Grade IV Biological Wastewater Operator certification in a timely manner
- Willingness to obtain C-well certification for drinking water in a timely manner
Skills/Competencies:
- The candidate must have a willingness to learn air, solid waste, hazardous waste duties.
- Candidate must be able to achieve NC Grade IV certification in 4 years or less.
- Candidate must be able to achieve C-well certification.
- Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to communicate with regulatory agencies effectively.
- Candidate must be self-directed, organized, with an attention to detail.
- Candidate must have good time management skills.
Required Qualifications/Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or environmental science preferred.
- 5-10 years experience in environmental compliance.
- Wastewater treatment system experience preferred.
- Grade IV certification preferred.
- C-well certification preferred.
- Versatile in Microsoft Office.
- Manager of Landfill Operations certification preferred. Willingness to obtain if not already certified.
- SAP experience preferred.
- PARCView experience preferred.
