Machinist Apprentice

The location in Nekoosa, (Wisconsin, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Machinist Apprentice. This job is full-time permanent.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adhere to employer safety practices and procedures.
• Set up and operate machines tools to fabricate or repair mill equipment. 
• Assist other crafts in assembling and/or disassembling mill equipment.
• Machine parts to close tolerance, fabricate or duplicate parts from prints, sketch, blueprint or existing part
• Learn the technique of roll grinding, rebuilding pumps, gearboxes and misc. mechanical drives.
• Assist millwrights as part of the dual craft contract
• Ability to balance pump impellers and other rotating equipment
• Perform general housekeeping duties and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Required Qualifications:

• Must lift 50-100 lbs. regularly, e.g., lathe chucks, metal parts, etc.
• Must limb and work in high places occasionally to take measurements, must do considerable amount of reaching, pulling, pushing and twisting, must stand for prolonged periods of time,
• Operate, and use power equipment, e.g., lathe, milling machine, shaper, variety of measuring instruments, etc., read blueprints and schematic drawings.
• Respond quickly to priority changes, work well under pressure, and perform quality work in a safe and efficient manner.
• Must have a maintenance machinist background, 2-year machine tool degree or have served a four-year State of Wisconsin apprenticeship or equivalent.

Recommended Qualifications:

•  Experience in the Pulp and Paper industry will be considered an asset.
•  Completion of an accredited machinist training program.

Must be willing to meet the following requirements:

• Available to work varying hours that may include shift, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to emergency call-ins.
• Pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
• Wear the required personal protective equipment including being respirator qualified.
• Complete standard Red Cross First Aid and CPR courses during the first year of apprenticeship and maintain such certification throughout career.
• Work in industrial conditions (i.e., warm/hot, dusty/dirty, around hazardous chemicals, noise, and heavy machinery or working at heights with proper safety training and safety protection)

You will be required to successfully complete a selection process that could include interviews, an employment background check, a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, reference verifications, aptitude tests (for some positions), and a fitness-for-duty test (for some positions).
