The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Senior Specialist, Payroll. This job is full-time permanent.
Overview: Reporting to the Senior Director, Payroll & HR Shared Services, the Senior Payroll Specialist's main mandate is to perform tasks related to the payroll of employees from different entities that involve more complex aspects and to ensure that everything is delivered on time. You will be responsible for validating entries made by Payroll Coordinators to ensure that they are complete and compliant. You will be responsible for ensuring that payroll procedures, policies, and conventional standards comply with Domtar rules and current government, state, legislative, and tax regulations. You will act as an expert for all payroll-related inquiries.
Your Challenges:
- Support the payroll team, ensure the efficient delivery of payroll services, on time and in accordance with requirements;
- Perform double validation of activities related to Canadian and U.S. payroll production within the required deadlines, in accordance with government, state, legislative, and tax regulations, conventional standards, and various internal procedures and processes;
- Verify executive payroll production to ensure that all payments are made accurately and that notifications are sent to them promptly in the event of changes (STIP, LTIP, shares, taxable benefits, or other).
- Reconcile and prepare payments to various suppliers, such as government remittances and remittances to relevant institutions and organizations.
- Prepare various monthly reports and perform various accounting reconciliations;
- Stay abreast of laws and regulations governing payroll, various unions, and general ledger classification;
- Respond to various requests from internal and external clients;
- Assist various departments in applying and maintaining policies, standards, collective agreements, and management procedures, ensuring that they comply with legal obligations and various government regulations;
- Participate in year-end activities for Canadian and U.S. payrolls and ensure process compliance and adherence to deadlines;
- Participate in the integration, testing, and implementation of improvements, interfaces, and tax and legislative updates to payroll and time systems.
- Perform activities related to Canadian and U.S. payroll production within the required deadlines, in accordance with government, state, legislative, and tax rules, conventional standards, and various internal procedures and processes in the absence of payroll specialists and/or when required;
- Participate in various projects as needed.

Your Profile:
- College diploma in administration, accounting, finance, or a related field;
- Certification as payroll administrator by the CPA or APA (a major asset);
- At least five (5) years of experience in payroll (handling the Canadian and/or U.S. payroll process from start to finish, including year-end payroll production);
- Experience with major payroll software and knowledge of the SAP system (an asset);
- Expert knowledge of the Canadian and/or U.S. payroll field, and capacity to proactively investigate and resolve payroll issues;
- In-depth knowledge of payroll-related legislative rules;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, and advanced knowledge of Excel in particular;
- Fluency in English and French, both oral and written*.
