Analyst, Production Planning

Overview: 

The Production Planning Analyst is responsible for integrating demand planning, production planning, and commercial execution to support Domtar’s customers. This role partners closely within Planning with Sales, Sales Operations, Manufacturing, Transportation, Warehousing, and ISAMs to translate strategic business plans into executable production schedules, inventory positioning, and service commitments.

The role requires a strong balance of analytics, operational execution, and cross‑functional collaboration, with a deep understanding of ERP systems, manufacturing constraints, customer requirements, and cost-to-serve considerations. The position serves as a key connector between commercial demand signals and operational supply capabilities, ensuring reliable service, optimized inventory, and continuous improvement.

 

Your challenges:

 

Production & Inventory Planning

  • Create and maintain executable daily, weekly, and monthly production plans for assigned mills
  • Balance demand across manufacturing sites to manage oversell/undersell situations and maximize asset utilization
  • Provide trim guidance and production direction to mills to support efficiency and order fulfillment
  • Monitor inventory levels, warehouse capacity, and flow to ensure service targets are met without excess cost
  • Manage operational execution for complex shipping modes (e.g., breakbulk vessels), including planning, pre‑loading coordination, and issue resolution

 

Demand Planning and Forecast Management

  • Develop, maintain, and continuously refine short‑ and mid‑term demand forecasts (0–60 days and 60+ days) in SAP, incorporating bookings, order status, priority lists, and customer commitments
  • Support forecast accuracy by aligning commercial demand with production, inventory, and logistics capabilities

 

Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Partner with Sales, Sales Ops, ISAMs, Manufacturing, Product Management, Transportation, Warehousing, and IT to deploy business plans
  • Identify and lead opportunities to improve manual, time‑intensive processes—particularly within forecasting, priority lists, and SAP workflows
  • Drive continuous improvement in service reliability, cost‑to‑serve, and operational efficiency

Your Profile:

 

Professional Experience/Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 8+ years of previous relevant experience OR if no degree, 10+ years of previous relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience in customer service, planning, transportation, sales operations, supply chain, or manufacturing operations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

 

Preferred Qualifications/Professional Experience: 

  • Pulp and paper industry experience strongly preferred
  • APICS certification a plus
  • French language skills preferred depending on assigned mills/customer
