The location in Kingsport, (Tennessee, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Sr Buyer. This job is full-time permanent.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Purchasing & Stores Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for the procurement of materials, equipment, repair services, and contracted services supporting the Kingsport Packaging Mill. The position will work closely with mill departments and key stakeholders to ensure materials and services are sourced competitively, purchased efficiently, and available when required. The Buyer will also support supplier development, competitive sourcing, contract administration, and continuous improvement initiatives within Procurement.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports the day-to-day procurement needs of mill departments and stakeholders for materials, equipment, repair services, contracted services, and other business requirements.
- Creates and manages purchase orders, including MRO material purchases, storeroom replenishment, service purchases, and other procurement transactions.
- Solicit quotations and supports competitive bidding activities, including development and distribution of RFQs/RFPs, supplier evaluation, bid analysis, and commercial negotiations.
- Works with suppliers to expedite materials and services, resolve delivery issues, and support mill priorities.
- Resolves purchase order, receiving, pricing, and invoice discrepancies in coordination with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Supports supplier qualification and contractor compliance activities, including review of contractor information through ISNetworld and other applicable systems to ensure requirements are met prior to performing work onsite.
- Evaluates supplier capabilities, performance, commercial terms, and ability to meet mill requirements.
- Supports Procurement initiatives including supplier development, contracts and agreements, cost improvement opportunities, inventory optimization, and process improvements.
- Maintains accurate purchasing records and documentation and performs other procurement-related responsibilities as business needs require.
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) or more years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain/materials management, or a related field.
- Knowledge of purchasing, supply chain, materials management, or procurement principles.
- Knowledge of commercial terms and relevant business law.
- Knowledge of relevant accounting principles and functions applicable to purchasing.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Ability to work effectively with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to understand commercial requirements and make sound business decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred.
- Manufacturing, industrial, MRO, or procurement experience preferred.
- SAP or other enterprise resource planning (ERP) system experience preferred.
- Experience with supplier sourcing, competitive bidding, negotiations, contracts, or commercial agreements preferred.
- Experience with ISNetworld or other contractor qualifications/compliance systems preferred.
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) or ability/willingness to get same desired.
- Experience in fiber-based products or similar manufacturing environment desired.
