The location in Johnsonburg, (Pennsylvania, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of J1 Paper Machine Supervisor. This job is full-time permanent.
As part of our team, this individual will perform various responsibilities in accordance with established deadlines. Duties associated with this position are as follows:
- Supervise the productivity of 2 shift crews and the efficiency of the operation under his/her supervision as well as the following:
- Manage the performance of team members as well as supervising maintenance during shift operations.
- Ensure that employees under his/her supervision have the required skills, means and resources to perform their duties safely and in accordance with environmental standards.
- Optimize employee productivity, equipment efficiency and product quality while eliminating waste to meet or exceed production goals.
- Ensure participation of all team members in the development and continuous improvement of work practices, procedures, equipment, know-how, etc. to optimize team efficiency.
Key Skill Sets:
- Provide support, leadership and communication to paper mill hourly union represented employees and ensure expectations are being met with high regard to safety and quality.
- Continuously monitor, evaluate, and review employee performance, progress, and behavior, and if necessary, address issues, initiate corrective actions, discipline, and follow-up.
- Maximize the effectiveness of the entire paper mill operations through accurate planning, scheduling, and modifications.
- Plan grade changes and provide feedback on effectiveness of changes.
- Input time, modify manning schedules and move employee resources for best utilization.
- Modify production schedules or shipping plans based on circumstances.
- Ensure communication on general and specific and paper shipments for problems on a continual basis; and take appropriate action and follow-up when required.
- Prepare and provide shift reports, investigate, and provide root cause analysis for operating and quality issues, and resolve equipment and performance issues by utilizing on-shift resources when possible.
Professional Experience/Qualifications:
- Four or more years of operating experience on paper machines.
- Demonstrate basic papermaking knowledge as well as familiarity with basic troubleshooting skills and techniques to solve quality and availability issues on paper machines.
- Strong communication skills are required, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrate positive employee/labor relations.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Willingness to work overtime and off-schedule hours as needed to support the operation as required.
- Willingness to cover weekly on-call schedule responsibilities.
- Willingness to move to the next level of succession planning.
- Minimum high school or equivalent education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field or similar discipline.
- Previous supervisor experience involving paper machine operations.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience with Minitab, Pi and Parcview applications.
- Desire to develop and grow managerial competencies beyond this level of management.
