The location in Calhoun, TN, is seeking talent to fill the position of Senior Engineer, Process. This job is salaried exempt.

 

Primary Purpose
Provide technical guidance and process operation support in the tissue areas. Coordinates and performs chemical trials to improve operations and production and reduce chemical usage/costs. Uses statistical techniques to eliminate “special cause” process variation and analysis of problems.

Duties And Responsibilities
 

  • Provides process/technical support to the tissue machine operation area including troubleshooting upsets and solving operational problems.
  • Coordinates and performs chemical trials to improve operations and production, reduce chemical usage/costs, and reduce environmental impact (including working with Environmental to improve effluent/emission quality).
  • Performs machine trials to improve product quality and runnability, reduce costs, and support product development.
  • Provides technical information re: quality and environmental issues to external and internal Domtar customers; responds to customer complaints regarding paper quality.
  • Uses statistical techniques to eliminate “special cause” process variation and analysis of problems and quality data.

 

Knowledge And Experience
 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or Pulp & Paper Science or a related field.
  • At least 2 - 5 years of experience in process engineering work, preferably in the pulp and paper industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of proper application of pulp & paper chemicals including OSHA standards, safe work practices, and environmental & process safety management standards.
  • Ability to manage complex technical problems and multiple priorities.
  • Computer literate, including spreadsheets and statistical software.
  • Able to effectively communicate (verbal and written) and relate with all levels of “customers” (internal and external) and be a team player.
  • Must be self-directed and highly motivated.
