HR & Safety Advisor – Brownsville Converting Plant

Position Title: HR & Safety Advisor
Reports To: Plant Manager / HR Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary

The HR & Safety Advisor is a key on-site leader responsible for supporting a fast-paced, 24/7 manufacturing operation. This role provides daily fast‑paced, 24/7 manufacturing operation. This role provides daily hands on support to employees and supervisors, ensures consistent application of HR and Safety policies, drives compliance with regulatory standards, and champions a positive and safe work environment. The HR & Safety Advisor must maintain‑on support to employees and supervisors, ensures consistent application of HR and Safety policies, drives compliance with regulatory standards, and champions a positive and safe work environment. The HR & Safety Advisor must maintain strong visibility on the production floor and partner closely with plant leadership to support retention, engagement, workforce development, and safe operational performance.


Key Responsibilities

Human Resources

  • Serve as the primary HR contact for hourly and salaried plant employees.
  • Provide daily HR support by being visible, accessible, and responsive to employee needs.
  • Administer and maintain timekeeping, payroll processing and attendance records.
  • Lead employee relations investigations, documenting findings and partnering with leadership on corrective actions.
  • Support supervisors in managing performance, including coaching, documentation, and development plans.
  • Coordinate salary and hourly staffing needs, including recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training.
  • Oversee new hire orientation and ensure all manufacturing employees receive required safety and job specific‑specific training.
  • Monitor attendance patterns; coach supervisors on application of the attendance policy.
  • Ensure timely and accurate administration of FMLA, ADA, EEOC, workers’ compensation, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, employment laws, and plant expectations.
  • Partner with leadership to support culture efforts, engagement programs, retention strategies, and workforce planning.
  • Act as a change management leader with strong emphasis on operations and productivity improvements.

Safety

  • Serve as the on‑site safety leader responsible for implementing and maintaining plant safety programs.
  • Conduct daily safety walkthroughs, job observations, and hazard identification on the production floor.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action development in partnership with corporate safety team
  • Ensure all OSHA logs, safety metrics, and documentation are completed accurately and submitted on time.
  • Facilitate safety training, toolbox talks, lockout/tagout refreshers, and other regulatory training.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and help drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and production leadership to enforce safe work practices and address unsafe behaviors immediately.
  • Support emergency preparedness, including drills, evacuation procedures, and response protocols.

Leadership & Partnership

  • Be a daily presence in production areas to understand issues, build relationships, and communicate proactively.
  • Participate in shift startups, daily production meetings, and cross‑ups, daily production meetings, and cross‑functional reviews.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to plant leadership by using data and trends to recommend improvements.
  • Help build a strong plant culture focused on accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.
  • Model professionalism, confidentiality, and consistent application of policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Safety, Business, or related field; or equivalent experience in manufacturing.
  • 3–5 years of HR and/or Safety experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, safety programs, and HR compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively on the production floor, build trust, and communicate across all levels.
  • Strong problem solving, coaching, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
