Scaling & Quality Coordinator (Contract) – Atikokan Sawmill

Location: Sapawe, Ontario
Duration: 9-month contract

Resolute Forest Products is currently seeking a Scaling & Quality Coordinator (Contract) to join our Wood Products operations at the Atikokan Sawmill in Sapawe, Ontario. This role is an integral part of our woodlands team, which is responsible for ensuring a consistent and high-quality fiber supply to the facility.

 

Position Overview:
Reporting to the Quality & Scaling Supervisor, the Scaling & Quality Coordinator will be responsible for the accurate measurement and reporting of log quality and volumes delivered to the sawmill.

 

Your Challenges:

  • Ensure application of the highest Safety standards to achieve superior health and safety results.
  • Carry out a contractor-specific, random sampling program to measure volume and quality of fibre delivered to the mill.
  • Maintaining the volume conversion factors for each log supplier to ensure ongoing, accurate volume measurement by contractor and by procurement area through sampling.
  • Ensure all scaling and fibre measurement programs are conducted in compliance with government scaling agreements and other legal or company requirements.
  • Administration of the quality measurement program software, including timely and accurate log quality reporting for supplier feedback and corrective actions.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of scale facilities to ensure accurate measurement of fibre at the mill.
  • Responsible for daily review and filing of the load slips and exception reporting.
  • Conducts weekly/monthly physical inventories to ensure accurate estimates of working capital and verification of mill consumption.
  • Maintains regular contact with mill staff to ensure effective interface with our primary customers.
  • Provide field services as required for the determination of log quality and direct feedback to suppliers in coordination with the contract administrators.
  • Support all safety and environmental compliance programs, including mill-specific Chain of Custody or other certification

 

Your profile:

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in the scaling profession or the forest product sector preferred

 

Your assets and skills

  • An Ontario Scaling Licence or the willingness to complete the program
  • Experience working in a four-season outdoor environment
  • Knowledge of Log Yard and Sawmill equipment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, to communicate with all levels of the organization, and to adapt quickly to change
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • An aptitude for numbers; Attention to detail; Ability to work calmly under pressure; self-motivated
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Knowledge of MS Office Software and solid computer skills
  • A self-motivated individual with strong attention to detail combined with the ability to see the big picture
