Area Superintendent, Atikokan Ontario Operating Area

 

Domtar Products is seeking candidates for the position of Area Superintendent for our Ontario operating area (Atikokan/ Fort Frances/ Dryden/Ignace). The Area Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing production and delivery of forest products as well as the operational planning, coordination and monitoring of wood harvest, road construction and road maintenance. The position also involves the supervision of staff and contract administration.

Your Challenges:

  • Ensure that the highest Safety standards are met or exceeded throughout the operation
  • Serve as the primary contact and liaison with Resolute Contractors on the Forest
  • Work cooperatively with all staff and harvest and road construction contractors to maximize operational efficiency and minimize cost.
  • Ensure compliance with all governmental and internal standards relative to safety, environment and utilization
  • Implement departmental budgets to ensure good cost control systems
  • Develop annual operating and road plans
  • Maintain continuous improvement program to maximize productivity
  • Ensure all employees and contractors are aware of quality specifications for all facilities
  • Ensure sawlog quality meets customer needs
  • Ensure compliance with all Collective Agreements and strive for cooperative working relationships
  • Develop good working relationships with all governmental and public agencies, and stakeholders
  • Ensure staff, employees and contractors receive all necessary training and development programs
  • Promote team work within the Woodlands Operations Group

 

Your team:

  • Reporting to the Area Manager for Ontario Woodlands, you will be part of a results-oriented team whose members are encouraged to exceed expectations.

 

Your profile:

  • 5 years relevant experience  in a variety of forestry related fields;
  • Technical, College, University or related Forestry Program;

 

Your assets and skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team, to communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to change
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
  • The ideal candidate will possess the drive and passion to continuously improve upon the health and safety, efficiency, production, and planning targets for Ontario Woodlands
  • In-depth knowledge of MS Office and solid computer skills
  • Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to see the big picture;
