The location in Skookumchuck, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Technical Manager. This job is full-time permanent.
- Provides technical and process optimization support, Quality Control, environmental leadership to the operating departments and the effective direction and implementation of the Quality Systems to ensure that the pulp produced meets the customer's expectations.
- Ensures effective technical support to the customers in conjunction with divisional technical support.
- Prepare and meet department budget and explain variances with appropriate corrective action taken as required.
- Meet the operating budget and lead the implementation of a cost reduction program to generate cash at the lowest point in the market.
- Ensure that R&D mill activities are carried out in accordance with corporate guidelines.
- Establish, implement and ensure the effective communication of operating parameters and final customer specifications for new and existing customers.
- Provide effective inspection and testing services for process and final products to ensure that pulp meets customer specifications.
- Effectively solve technical problems in a timely manner, meeting quality standards and efficiently implementing corrective action.
- Inform Mill Manager of potential major production, quality and environmental problems and propose solutions
- Establish and communicate quality standards and procedures for the Pulp Mill.
- Manage the implementation and maintenance of quality programs (eg. ISO, Domtar's Excellence Way).
- Assist Customer Services by ensuring a timely and effective response to customer complaints.
- Ensure department compliance with all environmental regulations.
- Promote and provide a safe workplace and support the implementation of a health and safety program.
- A minimum of Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering, preferably with a Chemical or Chemistry discipline.
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer in B.C.
- Superior writing, organizational and communication skills. Skills in handling meetings an asset.
- A minimum of 10 years of work experience in the pulp industry and environmental matters.
- Salary range is $150,000-$170,000
