The location in Skookumchuck, British Columbia, Canada, is seeking talent to fill the position of Environmental Supervisor. This job is full-time permanent.

The Environmental Supervisor will develop and steward site systems & processes required to fulfill Corporate Environmental Policies, government legislation and meet municipal by-laws or public concerns in order to minimize environmental impact in line with Corporate objective in compliance with Skookumchuck  Pulp Inc., principles and guidelines.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Promote and provide a safe workplace and support the health and safety program.
  • Monitor emerging environmental issues and changes in legal requirements via liaison with regulatory agencies and industry groups.
  • Ensure effective communication and compliance (monitoring, testing, establishing QA/QC procedures, and/or reporting) required by Federal / Provincial environmental legislation, Certificates-of- Approval and regulations with respect to air, effluent, storm water, groundwater (landfill), wastes and hazardous materials.
  • Apply for and negotiate certificates of approval.
  • Ensure required environmental licenses and permits for the site are procured and maintained current.
  • Establish, maintain and monitor the application of systems for emissions monitoring, measurement and reporting including equipment calibration, repair and wastes.
  • Manage disposition of industrial and hazardous waste.
  • Monitor process operations to ensure compliance and minimize environmental impacts.
  • Ensure timely, accurate and appropriate flow of environmental information across the mill including daily reporting and monthly and quarterly updates.
  • Prepare and meet department budget and explain variances with appropriate corrective action taken as required.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of EMS (ISO 14001), EMP to ensure mill compliance and registration. 
  • Inform Technical Manager of potential major environmental  problems and propose solutions.
  • Support to delivery of environmental training.
  • Keep up to date with new environmental technology, policies and management methods.
  • Advise other sites or Corporate Group of environmental changes or opportunities for improvement.
  • Support ISO (14001) audits and provide recommendations for improvement.

 

Qualifications/Skills and Experience

  • Degree/Diploma in Environmental Engineering field, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering or other relevant field
  • Five (5) years of direct experience in environmental engineering/management.
  • Experience in environmental permitting.
  • Experience in regulatory agency interface.
  • Knowledge of Water and Air programs.
  • Versatile in Microsoft Office.

 

Salary range for this position is $115,000 to $125,000 depending on skills and experience
