The location in Port Melon, (British Columbia, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Superintendent, Operations. This job is full-time permanent.
Site Superintendent - Bayview
Descriptive Data:
The Site Superintendent reports directly to the Site Manager. Responsibilities of the site Superintendent include all aspects of managing Log Sort Operations, Scaling, Environmental systems, and Shipping of chips. This superintendent is responsible to grow and develop Log Sort crews to achieve planned operating metrics and acts as the primary liaison with Mobile Equipment and Maintenance contractors.
Primary Purpose:
Overall responsibility is to safely manage accurate and efficient log sorting, handling, scaling, environmental compliance, and Shipping of chips.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure the application of highest safety standards for all aspects of Site.
- Provide leadership for all safety guidelines
- Ensure that all employees work in accordance with the rules, policies, programs and procedures of the Company, and with all applicable laws relating to health and safety
- Ensure compliance with all internal and governmental standards relative to safety, environment and utilization including site-specific Chain of Custody or other certification requirements.
- Maintain progressive hourly employee training and development
- Maintain progressive implementation of the appropriate work systems and contracts
- Follow departmental crewing and overtime budgets to ensure good cost control
- Establishes repair priorities, in collaboration with the Maintenance department, and ensures that repairs are conducted in as efficient a manner as possible. Recommends equipment improvements or modifications.
- Ensure accurate, reliable data is used for reporting log inventory
- Ensure log scaling conversions are accurate and maintained as current
- Ensure environmental issues are identified, prioritized and actioned
- Implement and maintain log quality standards
- In collaboration with Log Sort employees, ensure that logs are handled in a manner that maintains log quality.
- Ensure that log yards are kept tidy and organized.
- Manages the dewatering of logs log yards and supervises mill dewatering crew and contractors.
- Manages the chip flow to the pulp mills to ensure an adequate inventory of quality chips
- Investigates and recommends strategies to reduce operating costs and improve efficiency
- Supervise, direct and guide employees to help them achieve their maximum level of effectiveness; identify and meet their needs for training in their job, health and safety and the environment
- Supervise contractor operations for yard equipment services
- Maintain security of assets
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience preferably in a log sorting or chip plant environment.
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Previous experience managerial experience in a Log yard operation.
- Previous experience in managing Shipping processes and inventories.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
The salary for this position is CAD $90,000 to $113,000 per year. Salary will commensurate with education and experience.
