The location in Port Alberni, British Columbia  , Canada  , is seeking talent to fill the position of Mechanical Planner. This job is full-time permanent.

The Maintenance Supervisor is a member of a crew responsible for maximizing long term equipment availability within the cost constraints imposed.  The crew must also have a goal of minimizing the number of Safety incidents and the number of environmental excursions beyond accepted limits.

 

The key responsibilities of the maintenance crew supervisor are to: motivate the craft personnel, determine craft/skill/crew for the job, coordinate and follow-up the job, perform safety and quality monitoring of the job, recommend improvements and cost reductions, identify the causes of failures for breakdowns and repetitive repairs, and recommend skill levels and training courses for apprentices and journeymen.

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES & KEY ACTIVITIES:

  1. Responsible for the day-to-day motivation of members of his crew in the safe and effective performance of their duties.  The supervisor is responsible for initiating any activities that he see fit to promote this safe and effective performance.  Using good management skills, the supervisor will make assessments of his crew’ stability to complete the workload requested.  Since the most effective way to motive is by example, the supervisor would be ready to begin at starting time and would also be available continually to assist the technicians during the workday.  The supervisor would make recommendations to his Superintendent for the use of contractor personnel.  He may be involved in directing the contractor personnel when they are in the mill.
  2. The supervisor will take a secondary role in the planning and scheduling of work for his crew.  He will make recommendations to the planner for job sequence and details.  He is only responsible for acquisition of material for jobs that are done on an emergency basis.  The supervisor determined the craft/skill/crew for the job, he is not determining what craft manpower is required this has already been done by the planner.  The supervisor looks at the job and matches the skill level for several crafts and sends them all out to the job.  The supervisors will feedback information required by the planner to monitor the planning and scheduling function for improvement.
  3. The supervisor will take a lead role in identification of failures or of repetitive breakdowns.  The supervisor will be responsible for the identification of the solution for the problems within his expertise (those not requiring major processes of engineering changes).  He will utilize all of his crew in the development of these solutions and feedback the requirements to the planner via the work order system for implementation.  The supervisor’s feedback to the work order system relating to cause of failure can help make adjustments in the preventive/predictive maintenance program, as well as give engineering some valuable feedback on design flaws.
  4. The supervisor is responsible for the report of all safety and production related incidents in his area.  He will also provide the planner with information needed to maintain the equipment, documentation and computer database.
  5. The supervisor is responsible for the assessment and identification of technical skill deficiencies among the members of his crew.  He will provide short term on the spot style training where appropriate and will make recommendations to his Superintendent for more in-depth or longer-term training.
  6. The supervisor is responsible for staying abreast of technical advance in his area of expertise by meeting with sales or other technical personnel and for requesting training of any kind that he thinks will help overcome demonstrated skill inadequacy or will develop his abilities for another position.
  7. The supervisor may be asked to participate in or lead other projects from time to time.  The details, responsibilities and accountabilities will be negotiated with his Superintendent when the opportunities arise.

 

Salary $90,000 - $110,000 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience, and internal parity).
