The location in Port Alberni, BC, is seeking talent to fill the position of Electrical/Instrument Supervisor. This job is a permanent full time position..
I. GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Electrical/Instrument Supervisor is responsible to the Electrical/Instrument Superintendent for the organizing, supervision and scheduling of all work performed by the Electrical/Instrument Department within the areas of the mill specifically assigned to him
II. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES & KEY ACTIVITIES:
- Responsible for the safety of maintenance employees under his direct supervision.
- Actively participate in the implementation and application of all mill accident prevention and safety programs.
- Monitor safety performance, review accident/incident investigations and initiate investigations as required.
- Correct unsafe acts and/or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Ensure all applicable WCB regulations are strictly applied.
- Ensure employee safety meetings are conducted on a regular basis (minimum monthly) and the necessary tools and resources are made available for the meetings.
- Ensure that employees under his direct supervision are adequately trained in all safe work procedures, and use the protective equipment.
- Participate in establishing and accomplishing departmental safety goals and objectives.
- Maintains a high degree of housekeeping standards in assigned areas.
- Will ensure through written and/or verbal communication that all pertinent company policies, procedures and information is effectively communicated to employees under his direct supervision. Information which may impact on other supervisors or other departments is effectively communicated. Information, plans and problems are effectively communicated to the Electrical/Instrument Superintendent as required.
- Ensure that installation and repair work conforms to all regulatory codes and standards.
- Ensure that all maintenance and repair work is performed with the highest possible standards of workmanship.
- Ensure that maintenance work conforms to HSPP design, materials and installation standards. And that all work performed id done right the first time
- Assist in the preparation and execution of annual electrical/instrument department maintenance budget. Monitor and control portion of electrical/instrument maintenance budget assigned. Initiate purchase orders and approve supplier payments up to approved authority limits.
- Plan and schedule preventive maintenance work in assigned areas.
- Plan and schedule maintenance work for scheduled mill shutdowns for assigned areas.
- Plan and schedule project work as assigned for mill crews.
- Plan and schedule employees work and time off to ensure adequate availability of manpower at all times.
- Ensure that employees under his direct supervision are adequately trained to perform the assigned work in a competent manner.
- Participate in company sponsored training programs (technical and management skills).
- Identify future training requirements for his employees and himself.
- Responsible for maintaining an effective workforce at HSPP.
- Ensure that effective hiring procedures are practiced and adequate induction, job training and direction is given to each department employee.
- Ensure fair, firm and consistent application of the company policies and the BCSLA collective agreements applicable to the operation.
- Maintain good communication with senior management personnel other supervisors and employees.
- Responsible for timely and correct completion of reports and forms.
- Complete activity reports, time sheets and vacation sheets accurately and submit on schedule.
- Ensure that regulations for the protection of the environment are followed.
- Acquire and dispose of asset items with company policy and approved authority limits.
- Maintain an adequate parts inventory to minimize equipment down time, while minimizing inventory costs.
- Participate in the design, installation, commissioning, and start-up of new systems and equipment in assigned areas.
- Other duties as assigned by the Electrical/Instrument Superintendent including providing relief for the electrical/Instrument Superintendent in his absence.
Salary $110,000 - $115,000 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience, and internal parity).
