Manager, (Corporate) Carbon and Climate Management

The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Manager, (Corporate) Carbon and Climate Management. This job is full-time permanent.

Part of the Climate Strategy within the Sustainability Group, the Manager oversees corporate carbon accounting, corporate climate risk management, and corporate emissions tracking while integrating climate considerations into business strategy and decision-making. This role supports ESG reporting, ensures regulatory compliance and helps build innovation capacity within the Climate Strategy Group – driving scenario analysis, aligning with corporate sustainability goals and collaborating across business units to deliver data-driven solutions. 

 

Your challenges:  

  • Oversee and manage carbon emissions inventories (Scope 1, 2, and 3) across all Domtar operations, ensuring compliance with the GHG Protocol standard (according to WRI/WBCSD standards) working in close collaboration with BU Environment teams and the team responsible for the ESG Data Management Platform.
  • Analyze the feasibility of setting science-based targets for emission reductions and establish the targets on Scope 1, 2 and 3, and foest removal GHG emissions.
  • Develop a corporate-wide model based on sustainability-oriented KPIs to guide long-term capital investment and carbon reduction decisions at the business unit level.
  • Position the Climate Strategy Group as a corporate center of innovation by developing technology scouting capabilities, innovation-driven insights, and external partnerships.
  • Support the Climate Strategy team in developing a long-term carbon transition plan, providing analytical insights and scenario modeling for adapting to and mitigating climate change impacts.
  • Develop KPIs and tracking tools to measure progress toward emission reductions and other climate-related targets set out in the company’s Global Sustainability Strategy.
  • Coordinate climate scenario assessments and develop climate risk assessment tools to identify climate-related risks and opportunities at the corporate level.
  • Support corporate (voluntary) climate reporting across key frameworks (CDP, CSRD, TCFD, etc.), ensuring strategic alignment with business units
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, including sustainability, operations, and procurement teams, to support emissions reduction initiatives, as well as with external stakeholders, including suppliers and customers in collaboration with Sales, Logistics and the Sustainability Function’s Strategic Engagement & Partnerships team.


Your profile:   

  • Bilingual French and English*
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field. An advanced (i.e., graduate) degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in carbon inventory management, greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, and corporate climate strategy.
  • Expertise in science-based target, GHG Protocol, carbon footprint methodologies, and emissions reduction planning.  
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with experience in life cycle assessment (LCA), (climate) risk assessments. 
  • String knowledge of sustainability reporting framework (e.g. CDP, CSRD, TCFD) 
  • Demonstrated project management experience leading carbon initiatives and coordinating cross-functional teams across complex organizations. 
  • Ability to drive innovation in carbon reduction strategies, technology scouting, and the integration of data-driven insights into business decision-making.
