The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Director, Strategic Communications. This job is full-time permanent.
Job Summary:
The Director of Strategic Communications is responsible for shaping and executing Domtar’s comprehensive communication strategies to elevate the company’s brand, enhance employee engagement, and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders. Reporting to the Vice President of Global Communications, this role ensures consistency and alignment across internal and external communications, while positioning Domtar as a trusted industry leader.
The Director oversees internal communication programs that inspire and connect employees, develops executive messaging in partnership with senior leadership, and manages media relations, including serving as a spokesperson in regular matters and as needed, during crisis. They play a pivotal role in driving the implementation of Domtar’s brand strategy, ensuring authenticity and consistency across all platforms and initiatives.
Additionally, the Director mentors and leads a high-performing team of five, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture, and works closely with internal leaders and external partners to align messaging with strategic business objectives. This role requires expertise in media relations, brand stewardship, executive communications, and strategic advising, as well as the ability to navigate complex communication challenges with clarity and influence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communications: Provide strategic and day-to-day direction to team regarding all internal and external communication content and channels
- Media Relations: Manage Domtar’s media relations activities, including local incident response, and crisis communications response
- Management: Provide direction and support to communications and public affairs team as well as consultants and agencies
Professional Experiences and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or related field; Master's degree preferred
- Bilingual (French and English)
- 7-10 years of relevant experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience managing strategic projects, developing communications plans, writing press releases, and creating content calendars
