Sr Process Control Engineer

The location in Kingsport Packaging, (Tennessee, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Sr Process Control Engineer. This job is full-time permanent.

 

This position reports to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager and will have primary responsibilities to provide support for the distributed control system (DCS) software and hardware across the Mill.  The Sr Process Control Engineer will work with Maintenance, Operations, and technical personnel to optimize existing control systems as well as to plan and design new applications.  This role will become fully integrated into the Mill, working directly with executives and management with an assigned mentor to maximize growth and development.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Optimization Projects / Capital Projects
    • Responsible for optimization of existing mill control systems
    • Responsible for plan, design, and implementation of control systems / new applications
  • Organizational Effectiveness
    • Guide Operational and Electrical Maintenance work teams during technical troubleshooting of Mill’s process control systems
    • Work effectively with every level of the organization
  • Safety
    • Be a safety advocate, lead by example
    • Drive team efforts to identify root cause of issues, identify permanent corrective actions, document in mill-wide database, and provide follow-up

 

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. / M.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university; other engineering degrees will be considered coupled with process control experience
  • Ten (10) years of experience in manufacturing environment, preferably paper manufacturing
  • Five (5) years of experience with ABB and/or Valmet distributed controls systems; other DCS system experience will be considered
  • Ability to provide on-call, after hours, and weekend coverage as needed
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Technical writing and presentation skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years process control experience
  • Expert level knowledge of ABB and Valmet control systems
  • Experience Trouble Shooting Instrumentation Hardware (transmitters, drives, etc.)
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting communication links (OPC, Modbus, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of PI, ParcView and SAP
  • Well-developed troubleshooting skills - analytical, critical thinking and problem solving
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe work practices; ability to comply with and enforce Company safety and environmental policies / procedures
  • Ability to prioritize and make sound decisions, and resolve issues efficiently and effectively
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various departments and individuals (internal and external)
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills, with the ability to multi-task
  • Team player attitude, with the ability to work with diverse teams, multiple organizational levels and across business functions
  • Results focused and detail-oriented
