Project Management Engineering Intern ( located in Greenville, SC)

Domtar is seeking college rising juniors and rising seniors with a focus in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering interested in growth development and sophisticated project assignments to join our intern/co-op program in 2025! This position is located on-site in our Greenville, SC office

 

 

Domtar is seeking motivated college sophomores and juniors pursuing degrees in Construction Management, Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Civil) , or related fields who are interested in a career in Project Management. Our 2025 internship program will help interns gain real-world experience driving complex capital projects in a dynamic industrial environment.

 

As part of the Domtar Strategic Capital Project Team, interns will work alongside experienced Project Managers supporting capital project planning and execution across our North American operations. From front-end project development through construction and commissioning, you’ll be immersed in the full lifecycle of large-scale engineering projects. Interns are paired with mentors and exposed to a wide range of disciplines including engineering design, vendor coordination, budgeting, and scheduling—developing a foundation for a career in capital project leadership.

 

Our program provides a clear path to full-time opportunities within our corporate strategic capital group, with advancement potential in Engineering, Construction, or Operations.

 

Domtar offers competitive compensation starting at $24 per hour, with increases based on graduating year. Student housing is not provided. 

 

Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Support planning and execution of capital projects across multiple mill sites.
  • Assist Project Managers with scheduling, budgeting, and scope definition.
  • Participate in Front-End Loading (FEL) project development methodology.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Help prepare project documentation, presentations, and justification packages.
  • Support construction coordination and field walkdowns.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrolled as a sophomore or junior in an accredited Construction Management or Engineering program.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Strong interest in project planning, team coordination, and capital execution.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to mill sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to project scheduling software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) is a plus.
  • CAD or blueprint reading experience is beneficial but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and leadership potential.
  • Self-starter with a willingness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced environment.
